Community Emergency Response Team Training
Alabama REALTORS® Now Offering Community Emergency Response Team Training
Community-based preparedness planning allows us all to prepare for and respond to anticipated disruptions and potential hazards following a disaster. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is designed to train individuals to be assets to help communities prepare for effective disaster response.
The purpose of the Community Emergency Response Team Basic Training is to teach the basic skills needed to properly respond to your community’s immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster, when emergency services are not immediately available. By working together, CERT members can assist in saving lives and protecting property using the basic techniques taught in this course.
CERT Training Will Cover:
CERT training consists of 18 hours of instruction. Classes are taught by emergency responders, including law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
The course includes the following lessons:
Introduction to disasters specific to Alabama and the impact of disaster on infrastructure.
Fire Safety & Utility Controls
Learn about fire and utility hazards, fire suppression safety, and hazardous materials.
Disaster Medical Operations
Treatment strategies for life-threatening conditions and principles of triage. Patient assessment and treatment for various injuries.
Light Search & Rescue Operations
Techniques for sizing up and searching, lifting, cribbing, and removing victims; rescuer safety.
Disaster Psychology & Team Organization
The post-disaster emotional environment will be discussed. CERT organization, decision making, and documentation.
AAR Disaster Relief Fund
Overview of AAR’s Disaster Relief Fund. Learn how to help consumers who have been affected by a natural or man-made disaster apply for financial assistance through the Alabama REALTORS® Disaster Relief Fund.
A brief overview of terrorism and the weapons they use. Identifying targets in Montgomery and discussion of time/distance/shielding.
The first Alabama REALTORS® Community Emergency Response Team Training is open to REALTOR® members and will be held at the Alabama REALTORS® building on June 13 and 14. Lunch will be provided. Participants will also receive an emergency response kit and a Community Emergency Response Team certification upon course completion. This two-day course is free, but space is limited.

$100 Cancellation Fee: Due to limited space, a fee will be incurred for registered participants that do not attend the course. You may cancel your registration up to 72 hours prior to the class, not including weekends. Any cancellation after June 7, 2018 at 5:00 pm, including no shows, will result in a $100 fee. Participants must be 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license.
