Alabama Real Estate Commission Announces Patricia Anderson as New Executive Director
Jan 24, 2014
MONTGOMERY — The Alabama Real Estate Commission is pleased to announce that Patricia Anderson has been selected as its new Executive Director.
The Alabama Real Estate Commission is the state agency that licenses and regulates Alabama’s nearly thirty thousand real estate licensees and companies. Its mission is to protect the public through the licensing and regulation of real estate agents. Anderson replaces D. Philip Lasater who passed away unexpectedly in August after serving twenty-four years as the Executive Director.
This announcement comes after several months of conducting a national job search and undergoing an extensive interview process by the nine Real Estate Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. Commissioners worked with consultants to establish position qualifications, propose the selection criteria from the functions of the position description, establish job related skills on which interview questions were based, develop interview questions appropriate to each criterion, and conduct interviews and make the selection.
Commission Chairman Bill Watts said, "The Commission looks forward to working with Ms. Anderson. She will be an effective leader and a great asset to the real estate industry. She has vast experience, knowledge, and skills that are critical in meeting Commission objectives and requirements of the law."
Patricia Anderson has served as Assistant Executive Director of the Alabama Real Estate Commission for the past ten years. Prior to this position, she was the Commission’s Education Director from 1977-2004. Under her leadership, Alabama has become nationally recognized for its leadership role in real estate regulation and model programs that have been used by many states. Anderson has served in many positions with ARELLO® (Association of Real Estate License Law Officials) on the national and international levels and currently serves on their Board of Directors. She also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Alabama Center Real Estate at the University of Alabama.
Anderson adds, “I am extremely excited about this opportunity to serve as Executive Director and am committed to continue the Commission’s vision to ensure excellence in the real estate profession. I am honored by the confidence placed in me and I look forward to serving the people of Alabama in this capacity.”
