Montgomery, Ala.- Joe Rhodes, 2009 President of the Alabama Association of REALTORS® (AAR), began his term with the theme, “Make A Difference”. Rhodes challenged fellow REALTORS® with three campaigns: the “We Can Make A Difference” canned food drive, the “Biggest Loser Blood Drive” and the USO Phone Cards for Soldiers campaign.
REALTORS® met President Rhodes’ challenges with determination to help those in their community. The “We Can Make A Difference” canned food drive resulted in the donation of more than $4,300, and more than 8,300 cans to local area food banks across Alabama. During the AAR state convention held in Chattanooga, Tenn., AAR donated $2,500 and more than 500 cans of food to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.
The “Biggest Loser Blood Drive” campaign kicked off at the AAR June meeting in Orange Beach, Ala., and continued until the state convention in September. In three months, REALTORS® were able to give 214 units of blood to various organizations.
The USO Phone Cards for Soldiers campaign is underway. To date, REALTORS® and community members have donated more than $25,000. The money donated will provide phone cards for soldiers serving overseas, giving them the opportunity to call home.
President Rhodes expressed his appreciation to the REALTORS® of Alabama for generously given back to their communities during these hard economic times.
“We are all going through hard times right now, but it is times like these where we must stick together and help one another out,” said Rhodes. “That is how you survive these situations.”
