The Alabama Association of REALTORS® (AAR) named Irby Cohen, of the Birmingham Area Association of REALTORS® (BAR), as the state REALTOR® of the Year at the AAR annual convention held in Point Clear, AL.
The state REALTOR® of the Year award is given to someone who exhibits outstanding professional, civic and association achievements. Over the past 38 years, Cohen has been active on the local, state and national level.
His accomplishments include 2000-2001 AAR Regional Vice President, 1998 BAR President, a consistent ARPAC Sterling R, member of the task force that created RECAD, and was instrumental in the formation of the Birmingham Commercial REALTORS Council.
In his community, Cohen is an active member of Temple Beth-El as a trustee and member of the Jewish Communtiy Center. He served two terms as president of the United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham as well as serving as a director and chairing the Community Real Estate Foundation of Greater Birmingham UCP.
Jim Dye, AAR 2010 REALTOR® of the Year, presented Cohen with the prestigious award and spoke about his character. “He serves the REALTOR® association with thoughtful deliberation and good grace,” said Dye. “His peers know him as a gentlemen's gentleman, honest but gracious. A man with the mindset to do what's right and in the best interest for the REALTOR® membership,” added Dye.
