Essential Home Features Buyers Consider When Shopping for a Home

As a REALTOR®, knowing what the average buyer values most in a home is important. According to a recent study conducted by the National Association of Home Builders, the list of essential features for a first-time buyer, though shorter, is very similar to that of repeat buyers. For example, the living room is the most essential feature to a first-time buyer, followed by a laundry room. Those two features are also the top two features for repeat buyers; however, the order of importance is reversed.

Here is the list of essential features that first-time and repeat buyers look for when shopping for their home.

First-Time Buyers

  5. Walk-in closet in master bedroom
  6. Shower stall/tub in master bath
  7. Front porch

  3. Walk-in closet in master bedroom
  4. 2-car garage
  5. Garage storage
  6. Kitchen double sink
  7. Dining room
  8. Patio
  9. Table space for eating in the kitchen
  10. Both shower and tub in master bathroom
  11. Hardwood flooring
  12. Energy Star appliances
  13. Great room
  14. Granite countertops
