Leadership AAR 2018 Advocacy Session

Leadership AAR 2018 Advocacy Session

The Alabama REALTORS® Leadership AAR Class of 2018 recently met for the first session of this newly redesigned program. Alabama REALTORS® selected for this prestigious leadership program spent an intensive three days learning about and discussing the various aspects of one of our Association’s most critical missions – advocacy.

The Class kicked things off in Montgomery with briefings on the various state agencies and offices that have purview over REALTOR® issues and heard from a panel of other Association leaders about how Associations consider and employ strategic communications and campaigns to further their issues at the local and state levels. The next day of the program continued with increasing participants’ understanding of the state legislative process, from introducing legislation in the House and Senate, to committee work on proposed bills, to members of the legislature registering their votes in their chambers. The Class members actually got to sit in legislators’ chairs and cast electronic ballots for a mock bill while visiting the state House chamber! For the final module of the session, the Class boarded a plane to Washington, D.C. where they met with members of NAR’s government affairs and public policy teams and met with Representative Bradley Byrne and Senator Doug Jones’ Economic Policy Advisor.

Stay tuned to hear about what the Class learns in Session 2 this summer!
