Getting to Know Stacey Sanders: Your 2019 AAR President

Stacey Sanders, your 2019 president, is no stranger to the Alabama Association of REALTORS®. A licensed REALTOR® for 20 years, Sanders has been active with both her local and state association for quite some time.

How did she first get involved? She credits the Leadership AAR Class of 2004 for sparking her interest in taking on a more active role at the state level. Sanders, who was president of the Lee County Association of REALTORS® in 2006, began her tenure with AAR by serving as a member of the Board of Directors and on numerous committees and went on to be elected as the Central Regional Vice President in 2007. Since then, she has chaired several committees, such as the ARPAC Trustees and Public Policy Committee, before being elected to the Executive Committee, first as Secretary in 2016 followed by Treasurer in 2017 and President-Elect in 2018.

Although now considered a veteran in the real estate world, Sanders hasn’t always been a REALTOR®. She first worked as an international trade lobbyist in Washington D.C. right out of college. Sanders then got into the mortgage banking industry which eventually led her to residential real estate, where she has stayed for nearly two decades. Sanders is currently a broker with Weichert REALTORS®, Porter Properties in Auburn where she resides with her husband (Shane) and four sons (Charlie, 21; Seth, 18; Slade, 17; Caleb, 16).

As the 2019 Alabama REALTORS® President, Sanders has several goals for this year. She plans to build upon and expand current member services, develop new programs to help grow members’ business, and improve existing systems for maximum efficiency.

Sanders truly believes that as an association with over 16,000 members we are stronger together. And, although there may be thousands of us, each of us has something valuable to bring to the table, hence her theme, “Shine Your Light.”

In Her Own Words

What is your favorite thing about being a REALTOR®?

“As not only a REALTOR® but a broker, I enjoy watching my agents grow and succeed in their careers,” Sanders said. “We as REALTORS® are always adapting to the ever-changing world of real estate, and I enjoy training and helping our agents learn,” she continued. “It goes beyond just familiarizing yourself with contracts and forms, but learning how to connect with your clients. I always tell them this is not a sales job, it’s about relationships and people.”

Tell us about your theme, “Shine Your Light.”

“I chose my theme ‘Shine Your Light’ because I want our members to know that each of them has something special to contribute to our Association,” said Sanders. “This is a second or dual career for most people, so we all have unique backgrounds and experiences that we can use to help shape our businesses and the future of AAR. I encourage everyone to shine their light and connect with others – you never know what someone may learn from you!”
