Tax Cuts Task Force Meeting Report

Tax Cuts Task Force Meeting Report

On August 13, 2019, the AAR Public Policy team attended the organizational meeting for the Alabama State Joint Legislative Task Force on the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act. This Task Force was established under Senate Joint Resolution 87, which passed during the 2019 legislative session.

The Task Force is comprised of 3 members of the state House and 3 members of the state Senate. The Task Force is charged with studying the impact of the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (Public Law 115-97) on Alabama corporate income taxes. The Task Force will work with the Department of Revenue and the Legislative Services Agency to produce a report to the legislature by the 5th day of the 2020 legislative session.

During the meeting, members of the Task Force selected co-chairs to lead the body. Rep. Danny Garrett (R-Trussville) and Sen. Dan Roberts (R-Birmingham) were approved unanimously to serve in that capacity. The other members of the Task Force are Rep. Joe Lovvorn (R-Auburn), Rep. Rod Scott (D-Fairfield), Sen. Vivian Figures (D-Mobile), and Sen. Arthur Orr (R-Decatur).

The AAR Public Policy team will continue to monitor the Task Force’s activities over the coming months for its impact on the real estate industry.
