The Alabama REALTORS® Annual Meeting will be held October 20-21 at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center and the Capital City Club. Governance will be handled Sunday afternoon at the Board Meeting. Sunday evening, kick-off the festivities with a special cocktail reception celebrating RPAC's 50th Anniversary followed by the Annual Awards Celebration & Installation. The celebration will continue at the installation reception featuring The Andrews Brothers Dueling Pianos at our new venue, the Capitol City Club, overlooking downtown Montgomery. Monday’s General Session will feature five guest speakers covering a variety of hot topics affecting the real estate industry.

Vince Malta- Mr. Malta, current President-Elect and 2020 President for the National Association of REALTORS®, will provide an update from NAR including upcoming events and news for 2020 and our federal advocacy efforts, along with important updates from across the country and their impact on the Association and real estate industry.
Brian Powell- Mr. Powell is the head of the Alabama Department of Insurance’s Strengthen Alabama Homes Program, a statewide wind fortification program that provides grants to protect a home against severe storms, high winds, and wind driven rain. Wind mitigation and fortification can lower the impact of damage inflicted by severe storms and protect homeowners. Alabama has become the tornado alley of the Southeastern United States with an extreme uptick in severe storms. Mr. Powell will provide an update on the wind fortification efforts across the state and what you need to know to help clients.
Kenneth Boswell- Mr. Boswell, Director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), will provide an update on the upcoming 2020 United States Census and its importance to the future of the state and it’s economic growth and development- and what we as REALTORS® can do to help.
Lisa Scoble- Ms. Scoble, Vice President of Program Business for Pearl Insurance, will provide an update on cyber and transaction fraud threats affecting real estate professionals across the country and what you can do to protect your businesses, clients, and transactions.
Chad Singletary- Mr. Singletary is a Partner with the nationwide accounting firm, Carr, Riggs & Ingram. Mr. Singletary will provide an update on recent tax law changes and how they impact small businesses and independent contractors, along with an overview of the benefits of different company structures such as LLCs and S- Corporations for independent contractor real estate agents.

Vince Malta, a REALTOR® in San Francisco, California, is the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION of REALTORS® 2019 President -Elect. Vince is a third-generation REALTOR® and the CEO and broker of Malta & Co., Inc. Vince has been in the real estate business for 43 years and has served the industry in countless roles. On the national level, Vince has testified before Congress multiple times on behalf of NAR on issues such as the impact of increasing conforming loan limits, insurance reform, and housing policy. He has served on the NAR Board of Directors from 2002 to present, and was the 2010 & 2011 Vice President of Government Affairs. Since 1988, Vince has been deeply involved with the California Association of REALTORS® (CAR). In 2002 he became an Honorary State Director for Life, and in 2006, CAR elected him President. He was awarded REALTOR® of the Year for the state of California in 2007. He is a graduate of the University of San Francisco and the University of San Francisco School of Law. The National Association of REALTORS® is America’s largest trade association, representing 1.3 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.
Brian Powell | Director, Strengthen Alabama Homes Program

Brian is the Director of the Strengthen Alabama Homes program. He has been with the Alabama Department of Insurance since 2006 and with the Strengthen Alabama Homes program since its inception in 2013. The Strengthen Alabama Homes program is an innovative program that provides funding to Alabama homeowners in the form of grants and access to mitigation resources utilizing the IBHS Fortified program to protect their homes against high wind and hail events. The Strengthen Alabama Homes program is the only program of its kind in the United States. Brian recently was appointed to oversee the development, implementation and direction of the newly-formed Mitigation Resources Division within the Alabama Department of Insurance. This organization is unique in its design within a state government agency, actively creating opportunities for pre-disaster mitigation, disaster preparedness/recovery, and community resiliency in Alabama. Brian earned undergraduate degrees in political science and business from Troy University, a Master’s Degree in Business (MBA) from Auburn University and the Certified Public Manager designation from the National Certified Public Manager Consortium. He is a United States Army Veteran and has devoted 31 years to public service. In his spare time, Brian volunteers with Boy Scouts of America.
Kenneth Boswell | Director

As ADECA Director, Boswell serves in the Governor’s Cabinet, oversees a staff of 167 and manages an annual budget of more than $165 million. Boswell was serving his fourth full term as mayor of Enterprise when he was selected to lead ADECA. Prior to becoming mayor in 2003, he served as a member of the Enterprise City Council, having been elected to that post in 2000. During his 14 years as Enterprise mayor, Boswell worked hard to build on the Wiregrass city’s solid foundation of growth and prosperity, earning a positive reputation as one of Alabama’s most aggressive mayors. Enterprise also became an attractive destination for families with a population increase of 31 percent during Boswell’s time as mayor, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Boswell led Enterprise through a tragic time in 2007 when the city and its residents suffered the consequences of an F4 tornado that killed nine people and caused $307 million in damage. For his leadership during and after the disaster, Boswell received the prestigious Phoenix Award for Public Service After a Disaster at the White House. In 2004, he became a Certified Municipal Official and in 2006 received an Advanced Municipal Official designation by the Alabama League of Municipalities. In 2013, he graduated from Leadership Alabama, which brings leaders from across the state together to help move Alabama and its communities forward. Prior to serving as mayor, Boswell had a longtime career as owner of Boswell Insurance Agency Inc. Boswell and his wife, the former Melinda K. Modlin, have been married for 40 years and are the proud parents of a daughter, Alane Boswell Williams, and the proud grandparents of Gavin and Avery Kate.

Lisa has managed the Real Estate Errors and Omissions program for Pearl Insurance since 1994. She is currently Pearl’s Vice President of Program Business with a concentration on risk management, product development and managing Pearl’s Strategic Partner relationships. As a Certified Risk Manager, Lisa has conducted risk management seminars for Pearl insureds as well as state and local associations and franchise groups throughout the country. Lisa has also held her Real Estate license in Michigan for over 25 years in an effort to keep abreast of issues in the Real Estate market. She also holds her Certified Insurance Counselor designation from the National Alliance.

With more than 25 years of accounting experience, Chad directs auditing, accounting, compliance, consulting, and taxation engagements for organizations in the insurance industry and not-for-profit sector. His experience also includes work with small and medium-sized closely held businesses. Chad works with a variety of not-for-profit organizations, including associations, foundations, and voluntary health and welfare organizations. His work in the insurance industry includes experience with carriers, regulatory compliance, captive insurance, guaranty funds, self-insurance and self-insurance groups, and benefit plans. Chad’s work with small businesses includes engagements with closely held private companies in several industries. Chad currently serves as a member of CRI’s Accounting and Audit Quality Control and Continuing Education Committees. He regularly serves as a continuing education discussion leader for CRI and for outside organizations such as the Alabama Council of Association Executives (ACAE) and the Alabama Society of CPAs. He is a past member of the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy. He is also a past member of the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) of the AICPA, is a 2005 inductee into the Troy University Accounting Hall of Honor and the recipient of the ACAE’s 2010 President’s Award.
