Alabama REALTORS® 5th Annual Capitol Conference will be held February 11-13, 2020 at the Renaissance Hotel & Spa in downtown Montgomery and the Alabama REALTORS® Building. This year’s conference includes the ARPAC & Advocacy Awards Luncheon, a general session featuring Steve Murray from REAL Trends, our annual REALTOR® Day activities (a Legislative Briefing, visits to the Alabama State House, and the Legislative Reception), and a session from our newly redesigned GRI program.

Steve, the president and owner of REAL Trends, earned his credibility by having been in the residential real estate field since 1977. He also co-authored four books on the valuation of residential real estate brokerage firms; co-authored the 2011 book “Game Plan,” about the past and future of residential brokerage;...
and co-authored the 2014 book, “Game Changers: The Unfounded Fears and Future Prosperity of the Residential Real Estate Business.” Steve has served dozens of state and local Realtor® associations and MLS organizations in a consulting capacity and has consulted with several large technology firms over the years.

Shulanda has been with EXIT Realty Lyon since 2009 and in the Real Estate industry since 1998. Shulanda has provided stellar services to both home buyers and sellers along the Gulf Coast by bringing a high level of resourcefulness to each transaction.
She is highly qualified to handle both residential and commercial Real Estate transactions. In 2018, she graduated from Leadership-AAR (Alabama Association of REALTORS®), the Graduate, REALTOR® Institute in addition to earning the certification to teach Real Estate courses in Alabama and as a Certified Distance Education Instructor (CDEI). Shulanda has also attained the distinguished title of Dr. Shulanda Franks, from the University of Southern Mississippi by earning a Ph.D. in Education and Psychology, in 2015.

Jim, who presently works as an independent contractor/real estate business consultant, entered real estate in 1978 with Johnson-Rast & Hays in Birmingham, Alabama. With his two partners, he opened LAH Real Estate in 1992, and served that company as president, qualifying broker, residential sales manager, and company trainer.
Jim was named the Birmingham Association of REALTORS® “REALTOR® of the Year” in 1989, served as President of BAR in 2007, was awarded BAR’s “Tom Rast President’s Cup” in 2005, then the Alabama Association of REALTORS® “Robert Jemison Award” in 2014 and AAR’s “Harriett Isaacson Excellence in Education Award” in 2015. He was awarded REALTOR® Emeritus status by National Association of REALTORS® in 2019. Jim holds the ABR, ABRM, CRB, SRES, MRP, RSPS, RENE, SRS, and CDEI designations/certifications from NAR. Jim also served as the Alabama Center for Real Estate’s (ACRE) Education Director from 2011-2017.

Bob McMillan CRB, CRS, GRI, has been a REALTOR® since 1979, was 1997 President of the Alabama Association of REALTORS® and the 1999 REALTOR® of the year for the Alabama Association of REALTORS®. He has been a GRI instructor since 1989 and has taught sessions from Washington state to the Virgin Islands and all points in between.
At the national level, with the National Association of REALTORS®, Bob was the 2002 Regional Vice President for Region 5 and has Chaired of NAR’s Diversity Committee, RPIC Committee, and Commercial Legislative, and Regulatory Committee amongst his numerous committee assignments.

Anne is an instructor for the Academy of Real Estate. She specializes in real estate education, consulting, motivational training, and coaching. Anne attended Spring Hill College and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and a Master of Arts in Teaching.
She has taught real estate courses in multiple states and is an instructor for the GRI program. She has also taught a variety of designation courses including SFR® and SRES®. Anne assisted in writing the outlines for the Post License course, the 60 Hour Prelicense Broker course, and the Risk Management CE courses for Brokers and Salespersons for the state of Alabama. She has taught at major conferences for AAR and for many local Associations throughout our state.
Anne has served on the Education Advisory Committee for the Alabama Real Estate Commission, as a Professionalism Trustee for AAR, and is a past President of the Alabama Real Estate Educators Association. In 2018, she received the Harriett Isaacson Excellence in Education award. In 2010, Anne was introduced as a member of the Alabama REALTORS® Hall of Fame and was REALTOR® of the Year for the Mobile Area Association of REALTORS® in 2012. In addition, Anne has served on the Professional Standards and Grievance Committees and on a variety of committees at the both the state and local level.
