Uniform Condominium Act Bill Receives a Favorable Report in House Committee

HB 374, sponsored by Representative Chris England (D-Tuscaloosa), received a favorable report in the House Committee on Commerce and Small Business last week.

Rep. England introduced the bill in Committee and stated the Alabama Law Institute brought this bill forward. HB  374 would provide for updates to the Uniform Condominium Act. The last revision to the Uniform Condominium Act was in 1991. Since then, there have been many changes in the real estate market that have affected condos being developed, bought, sold and operated. The bill received a unanimous favorable report.

SB 283, the companion legislation sponsored by Senator Rodger Smitherman (D-Birmingham), passed the Senate Committee on Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development last week.  SB 283 is pending final passage in the Senate.

Alabama REALTORS® support HB 374/SB 283 and the clarifications it provides for condo owners and developers.
