REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo Re-Cap 2018

REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo Re-Cap 2018

Last week, Alabama REALTORS® joined more than 9,000 REALTORS® from across the nation in Washington, D.C. to urge action on various real estate issues during the 2018 REALTOR® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo.

Over 100 members from Alabama converged with fellow REALTORS® from every corner of the country to attend the meetings and visit lawmakers on Capitol Hill. While there, Federal Political Coordinators (FPCs) from each district in Alabama led a meeting with their representative or senator to influence public policy decisions that will directly affect REALTORS®, the real estate industry, and consumers’ ability to buy, sell, and own real estate.

During their meetings, FPCs and AAR members urged members of Congress to preserve current real estate-related tax policies, support strong net neutrality protections, expand equal opportunities in housing, and reiterated the importance of reauthorizing the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

Our FPCs and members from each congressional district were able to meet with all nine members of Alabama’s delegation to advocate for REALTOR® issues! Following the Hill visits, Alabama REALTORS® hosted a Legislative Reception at the Russell Senate Building where REALTOR® members were able to further visit with their members of Congress. In attendance were Senator Shelby, Senator Jones, Representative Roby, Representative Aderholt, Representative Byrne, and their staff.

The Alabama Association of REALTORS® (AAR) is the largest statewide organization of real estate professionals comprised of over 15,000 members from 26 boards and 1,200 real estate companies.  United by adherence to a Code of Ethics, our members work as real estate professionals in the sale, lease, appraisal, management and development of residential, commercial, rural and resort properties throughout Alabama.
