Public Policy Forum and REALTOR® Party Training 2018 Recap

Public Policy Forum and REALTOR® Party Training 2018 Recap

On August 21, REALTOR® members gathered at the Alabama REALTORS® building for the second annual Public Policy Forum and REALTOR® Party Training. The well-attended event received a tremendous response.

The Forum was led by members of the AAR Public Policy Committee. President Sid Pugh welcomed members, followed by Stacey Sanders, Public Policy Chair, who gave a 2018 Legislative Session recap and discussed the continued growth and evolution of our legislative process.  Morgan Ashurst, Public Policy Vice Chair, moderated the forum.

Prior to the event, our local boards, real estate professionals, and industry leaders provided helpful feedback about issues they are seeing in their markets. During the open forum, REALTORS® discussed the earlier feedback and other issues present in their markets. These ideas and issues will be used to help shape the Association’s Public Policy Statements and Public Policy Agenda for the next quadrennial (four-year) cycle, Legislative Sessions 2019-2022.

A big thank you to Senator Del Marsh, President Pro Tem of the Senate, and Representative Nathaniel Ledbetter, House Majority Leader, who provided a 2019 Legislative outlook during lunch.

Alabama REALTORS® partnered with the National Association of REALTORS® to offer REALTOR® Party Training featuring two sessions, Local Municipal and County Monitoring, how to develop a local municipal and county monitoring program, and Best Practices for Choosing REALTOR® Champions, a road map to guide volunteer leaders in making educated and fiscally responsible decisions when backing political candidates. The afternoon session was led by John Winston, NAR Campaign Services Manager.

Thank you to all who participated this year. Be on the lookout for registration information for the Public Policy Forum next year!
