Hardest Hit Alabama Reopens

Hardest Hit Alabama Reopens

The Alabama Housing Finance Authority (AHFA) has reopened Hardest Hit Alabama (HHA) to help Alabama families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. HHA is a foreclosure prevention program that helps homeowners keep their home when faced with temporary financial hardships. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Treasury’s “Hardest Hit Fund,” which was authorized under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. HHA is now accepting applications for eligible Alabama homeowners who need short-term mortgage payment assistance due to a loss in employment or income due to COVID-19. The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • Total Household Income: not to exceed $91,420 (includes income of all occupants 18+ years)
  • Maximum Unpaid Principal: $300,000 (must include balance of all outstanding liens)
  • Maximum Assistance Allowed: $30,000
  • Homeowners who are receiving or have received assistance from HHA in the past are not eligible

Since HHA is anticipating high demand, applications will be accepted in cycles of 200 submissions each. Once 200 applications are received, HHA will temporarily close the application portal to evaluate eligibility. To get more information about HHA, visit their website at www.hardesthitalabama.com and submit an application  here.
