AAR Files Amended License Law Bill, Will Carry the Legislation Over to Next Session to Allow More Time to Review

Dear Alabama REALTORS®,

Earlier this legislative session, the Alabama REALTORS® (AAR) sponsored legislation to amend Alabama real estate license law. Since that time, we have received great feedback from members regarding concerns about the original legislation and ideas to improve the bill and make it a better product. We greatly appreciate all of the feedback from our members.

We have worked through the legislative process, listened to the feedback, and amended the legislation to reflect a number of changes to the originally proposed bill. This afternoon a new bill was filed in the Senate that reflects those changes. AAR will not advance the legislation further during the 2021 Legislative Session and will carry the bill over until next year. This will give more time to work toward consensus with the Alabama Real Estate Commission (AREC) over the summer and use further feedback to craft the bill’s final version. We are very pleased to report that AAR and AREC are in agreement to advance some of the proposals by Commission rule changes this summer and fall. We will continue the discussion on ways to improve license law ahead of the 2022 Legislative Session and beyond.

A copy of the new bill, SB404, sponsored by Sen. Dan Roberts (R- Birmingham), can be found here. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out here

Thank you for everything you do to advance real estate in Alabama. We appreciate your support. If we can be of service to you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Warm regards,

Slade McElroy
2021 AAR President
