Alabama REALTORS® Mourns Passing of Past President Robert "Bobby" Wylie Shepherd

Past President Robert "Bobby" Wylie Shepherd

Alabama REALTORS® is saddened to learn of the passing of our friend Robert (Bobby) Wylie Shepherd. Bobby served as President of the Alabama Association of REALTORS® in 1983. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this time of loss.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Virginia Smith Shepherd; son Everett Shepherd III (Hugh); daughter Mary Berkeley Shepherd Pritchard (Pete); and granddaughter Margaret Pritchard Wiles (Grayson).

Bobby graduated high school from the Kentucky Military Institute and was a graduate of the University of Alabama. He received his law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. He also served his military obligation in the Alabama National Guard.

After law school he entered his family real estate business, Shepherd Realty, which specialized in commercial property, property management and development, notably developing Brookwood Village shopping center in Birmingham.

Bobby was very involved in his community and civic affairs. He served as President of the Alabama Association of REALTORS®, President of the Birmingham Association of REALTORS®, President of the Homewood Chamber of Commerce and was involved in the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the board of the Alabama Housing Finance Authority.

Bobby led AAR during a time of high inflation, high federal deficits, and high interest rates across the country. He was a strong leader and advocate for the real estate industry.

Bobby exemplified what it means to be a servant leader and will be missed.
