Kim Hallmark: 2021 Alabama REALTOR® of the Year

Kim Hallmark: 2021 Alabama REALTOR® of the Year

Kim Hallmark had what she called a “flashback moment” when she realized she had won Alabama’s 2021 Realtor® of the Year Award at the Alabama Association of Realtors® Annual Conference in Point Clear. “My very first convention was around 1994 at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina,” the Decatur Realtor® explained. “There was a very polished Realtor®, Jamie Prater, that I saw in the halls. She looked like she stepped out of a magazine,  and she went on to win the Realtor® of the Year Award. I remember admiring her as she won the award and thinking, if I do this right, that would be something to shoot for. Jamie was an inspiration as were others who have been guiding lights for me and my career.”

The Realtor® of the Year Award recognizes an AAR member who demonstrates passion for community service and embodies the Realtor® spirit through service at the local, state and national levels. “When you do what you enjoy and truly try to make your community a better place, you put your time and talents in those areas,” said Hallmark. “That has made me a stronger real estate agent and that’s a bonus. It’s special to have my efforts recognized and to be able to represent our Alabama association.”

Hallmark, associate broker with RE/MAX Platinum, serves her community and her local and state associations with strong commitments to all. She and her husband, Jeff, were involved in Decatur Jaycees and she continues to serve with the Junior League and a local child abuse prevention agency, Parents and Children Together. “All of my community involvement helped me develop relationships, and we know our business is all about relationships. When people locally think of Kim Hallmark, I’m confident they think of me first as a community volunteer and second as a Realtor®. I’m fine with that.”

The experience and guidance of other local Realtors® encouraged Hallmark to serve the association at the local and state levels. She led her local association president in 2007 and 2020 and in key roles with AAR including State Director, Regional Vice President, Education Trustee and several key committee posts. She served as the Alabama Realtors® Political Action Committee Trustees Chair in 2019 and 2020. Hallmark also is a member of AAR’s Leadership Class of 2006. In 2009 and 2020, she was chosen Realtor® of the Year by the Morgan County Association of Realtors®.

Hallmark takes pride in helping people buy or sell property. “This year, I’ve had two sets of second-generation clients. When clients refer you, especially to their family, you know you did it right.” At this year’s annual conference, a colleague gave her a quote from the late author, James A. Michener, which reflects her view: “The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both.”
