NAR 2024 Legislative Meetings Recap

Alabama REALTORS® joined the National Association of REALTORS® in Washington, D.C. last week for its 2024 REALTOR® Legislative Meeting, engaging with Capitol Hill representatives and advocating for REALTORS® and private property ownership.

While there, Alabama REALTORS® President Senia Johnson welcomed members from across the state and region at the Alabama Welcome Reception.  Federal Political Coordinator (FPCs) from Alabama led meetings with their members of Congress to discuss issues important to our members including VA Buyer Compensation, maintaining Independent Contractor status, and other issues impacting our industry.

The NAR Board of Directors met on Thursday to elect its 2025 Officers, approved the budget keeping dues at $156 per member for 2025.  In addition, the Directors approved the recommendation to amend Article 4 of the Code of Ethics, which provides clarity on conflicts of interests and protections for buyers, sellers, lessors, and lessees. The amendments will take effect on Jan 1, 2025 if they’re approved by the NAR Delegate Body in November.

Two Alabama REALTORS®, Susan Shallow (Orange Beach) and Sherry Dinges (Huntsville), were among those honored during the annual RPAC Awards Ceremony and inducted into the RPAC Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Susan and Sherry and thank you for your outstanding support of RPAC!

Alabama REALTORS® was also honored as the recipient of the 2023 Triple Crown recipient, raising over $975,000 for RPAC, exceeding its fundraising and participation goals for the year.

Other highlights from the meeting include remarks from NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun on Residential Economics Issues and Trends and a presentation from NAR Chief Legal Officer Katie Johnson on New Practice Changes.
