Intro to CERT Training Prepares REALTORS® for Disaster

Last week, Alabama Association of REALTORS® partnered with the Montgomery City/County Emergency Management Agency to host Introduction to Community Emergency Response Teams Training. Over 50 Alabama REALTORS® from across the state participated in the course hosted at The Lodge at Gulf State Park.

“It’s so important to be prepared. Just a few months ago when the tornado hit Lee County I watched as REALTORS® came together to help their neighbors and community,” said ALABAMA REALTORS® 2019 President Stacey Sanders. “Thanks to the Introduction to Community Emergency Response Teams Training we now have 50 more REALTORS® around the state of Alabama ready to help and shine their light when disaster strikes.”

The Introduction to CERT Training course included lessons in fire safety, disaster medical operations, search and rescue, and more. Attendees learned introductory tips to help protect not only their previous and current customers and clients, but also their family, neighbors, and co-workers in the event of a disaster, either natural or man-made.

During lunch, attendees heard from guest speaker Brian Powell of the Alabama Department of Insurance Strengthen Alabama Homes Program. Mr. Powell spoke about grant opportunities to assist homeowners and businesses with fortifying their structures prior to a natural disaster. Alabama has become the leading state in the nation in terms of the number of Certified Fortified homes in our state. More information about the nationally recognized program can be
