5 Alabama Driver License Locations Now Open Saturdays

Saturday operations started Dec. 7 at five driver license offices in Alabama.

Montgomery, Jacksonville, Sheffield, Tuscaloosa and Dothan began Saturday operations on Dec. 7. The offices will be open from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Birmingham, Opelika, Mobile and Huntsville already offer Saturday services.

Saturday walk-in customers are assisted on a first-come, first-served basis for services as first issuances or renewals of driver licenses, including STAR IDs; knowledge and road skills tests; and out-of-state transfers. Driver license reinstatement will only be handed Monday through Friday during regular business hours 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Decatur hours expanded

The hours of operations at ALEA’s Driver License Division office in Decatur have been expanded. The office is now open from 7:30 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.

ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said the expanded hours come after Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, inquired about making a change. Orr said Taylor, the Driver License staff and Morgan County Sheriff Ron Puckett worked together on the project.

“Working with these departments for a solution that serves the public needs better has been truly gratifying,” Orr said in a statement.
